Title Synopsis
101 "Freefall" Not long after military forces from Earth think they've defeated an alien Bug infestation on Pluto, the insects return and threaten our scientific outposts.   Mobile Infantry forces are sent back to Pluto for what is believed to be a little mopping-up job.   New Troopers Johnny Rico, Flores and Carl Jenkins make their first military drop with "Razak's Roughnecks," an M.I. Squad led by a Lt. Razak, a legendary soldier known for his heroism.   Shortly after their arrival in the D.Z., the Roughnecks discover that this is not just a simple "hit and run" mission ... but the first battle of what will become the First Interstellar War.

102 "Plasma Bugs Of Navarone" Carmen and Sander are trapped in a scientific research outpost on Pluto when their Retrieval ship is shot down by Plasma Bugs.   Razak's Roughnecks pick up a distress call from Carmen, and set out to locate the Plasma Bug cave and destroy the insects.  Rico is driven by the need to save Carmen and thus puts safety of his squad at risk as well as his own neck.    However, when the mission is completed Carmen remains unaware that Rico was responsible for saving Zander and herself.

103 "Handle With Care" The Roughnecks are sent by S.I.C.O.N. on a special mission: to bring back a live Plasma Bug from behind enemy lines.   Along with an "by the rule book" Intelligence officer named Lieutenant Earle Walker, the Roughnecks have to  transport the bug through rough terrain; inside the Bug Plasma reserves have started to go critical and any sudden impact will cause it to explode!!!
Lt. Razak is forced to take orders from Walker, who is out to further his own career at any ones expense - including the Roughnecks.   This causes Rico to question why Lt Razak's is going along with this.  Is it loss of nerve or pride?   Despite Walker's threats, Razak decides to save M.I forces who are losing a battle on Pluto by bombing the enemy with the unstable Plasma bug   In this, Rico learns a valuable lesson about the values of duty and the worth of ego.

104 "Basic Training" Lt Razak wants to have Higgins shipped back to earth as his actions during battle compromise the safety of the Roughnecks.   But after Rico defends him Razak comes up with another plan.  Rico has to train Higgins and turn him into an effective trooper.    This is easier said than done though as Higgins cannot shoot to save his life!! . Meanwhile, the Roughnecks must rescue a Demolition Squad trapped in a canyon by an Warrior Bug ambush.   When they arrive, the Roughnecks suddenly come under attack by a bug no one's seen before - a flying hopper, armed with a razor-sharp stinger.  Laser weapons don't seem to work on these bugs, and eventually the Roughnecks discover the Hoppers actually absorb the Laser energy, gaining strength from it.   Higgins suggests using his camera lens to amplify a laser from Flores weapon to attract the hoppers in one place so the squad can take them all out in one go.   In the fire-fight to save the Demolition squad Higgins finally realizes how to use his rifle - at last.

105 "Deep Trouble" The Roughnecks, with several other squads, are sent beneath the surface of the planet to locate the source of the bug army - nicknamed "Bug City," and call in an airstrike.   The Roughnecks have to travel deep into bug tunnels and Flores who suffers from extreme claustrophobia collapses, thus putting the entire squad at risk during the bug attacks.   Carl has to place a hypnotic suggestion in Flores's subconscious which cures her of her phobia.   The Roughnecks finally emerge back on the surface of Pluto, inside a massive asteroid crater which is filled with bug eggs that have already hatched.   They then witness the arrival of a Transport Bug, which lays more eggs and drops off hundreds of Adult Bugs revealing that the Bugs are not indigenous to Pluto, and that S.I.C.O.N. forces are no longer facing a localized infestation, but a full-fledged war.

106 "Water, Water Everywhere" The Valley Forge tracks the Transport Bug spotted dropping eggs and bugs onto Pluto to a previously undiscovered planet, which is named Hydora.   S.I.C.O.N. orders The Roughnecks down to watch the Transport and see if it has returned to the Bugs' Home Planet or if Hydora is either some kind of staging post or the Bug home world.   A new type of bug, Ripplers, leave the Transport Bug so Razak, Flores and Brutto follow the new arrivals while the rest of the squad maintains surveillance on the Transport Bug.    When this group comes under attack by Ripplers Doc and Gossard get stuck in a cliff face niche.   Mean time Rico, Carl and Higgins get trapped inside the Transport Bug itself.    As they try to escape from the Transport, Carl gets a mental message from the Bug!!!    The 3 troopers escape the bug via a "waste disposal" tract after Rico leaves a bomb as a parting "gift".   The Roughnecks regroup and report to S.I.C.O.N. that this is not the Bugs' Home World.   Carl then tells them the message he was sent inside the Transport - the Bugs want it known that they won't stop until every human being is eliminated

107 "Swarm"

Carmen is stranded on Hydora while rescuing Troopers injured in a fierce Bug battle.   She teams up with Lt. Bernstein commanding Zebra squad but now in charge of a makeshift group of Troopers from numerous other squads.   When they become trapped by a new and more aggressive strain of Ripplers nick-named "Kamikazes," Razak's Roughnecks head to the rescue.   S.I.C.O.N. reports that these Kamikaze Ripplers are swarming all over the planet, preventing supplies and reinforcements from being dropped in as well as casevacs getting out.   Bernstein's squad and Razak's Roughnecks take part in a two-pronged battle plan - eliminating the Kamikazes from their underground nests, and driving the remainder up top to where more squads are waiting to destroy out.   Meanwhile, Rico is surprised to see Carmen and, yet again, risks his life and every one else's to try and impress her.

108 "Search & Destroy" The Roughnecks are sent into enemy territory to seek out and destroy another Rippler nest. Razak splits the Roughnecks into two groups.   Sgt Brutto is put in charge of one group which consists of Rico, Carl, Higgins and Doc. Razak takes Gossard and Flores with him.    Brutto's group encounters severe enemy attacks as they progress and Carl is severely injured by a Ripplers "sting".    Rico and Doc ask Brutto to break radio silence and get Razak to have Carl casevaced - but Brutto refuses.    Their boat then winds up destroyed in a whirlpool.   All the group survives, surfacing in a grotto where they're rescued by Razak.    Rico and Brutto almost come to blows over not contacting Razak about Carls wounds.    The argument is cut short, though, when the Roughnecks discover the Ripplers  egg sacks and the adult Ripplers arrive to defend them.    During the fight with the Adults Rico saves Brutto's life but eventually, the squad has to blow up the grotto to destroy the egg sac.    They must outrun the explosion in order to survive.    Later, because he saved his skin, Rico covers for Brutto.  Lt Razak is rather skeptical ... but he lets it drop.

109 "Missing In Action"

The Roughnecks are back on Hydora to find two squads that have seemingly vanished into thin air.   On the way down Rico and Flores bicker when he criticizes her for taking too many risks.   During the SAR mission Flores again races off on her own to battle Water Tigers.   These Bugs are large amphibious beetles with giant pincers.   Rico turns his back on Flores for a split second and Flores also disappears. Rico is devastated by this and blames himself.   The Roughnecks eventually track Flores and the other squads missing troopers to the Water Tigers' lair, where the MIA's have been sealed up in a waxy substances.   Flores and the others are rescued and treated with anti- venom.   Everyone races to escape from the underground lair with Water Tigers in hot pursuit.   Razak decides to nuke the place to remove the Water Tigers permanently.   Rico has been going overboard trying to take care of Flores is told by her to knock it off.

110 "Sole Survivor"

The Roughnecks find Lt. Ross, the commander of Delta Squad, wandering on Hydora.   His long-term memory had been wiped out, and his entire squad is missing.   The Roughnecks are assigned to find out what happened to both The Roughnecks are sent on an investigative mission to discover what Ross and his men.   Carl is told to perform a mind scan on Lt Ross and unlock the subconscious memories to see what happened.   Rico had a problem with Carl invading a man's mind and told Carl that, if he's ever in trouble, to keep out his head.   Down on Hydora the Roughnecks wind up captured by Warrior Bugs and taken to a cavern where a Brain Bug that controls the entire planet intends to mind probe the entire squad, starting with Rico.   Mean while, back on the Valley Forge, Carl had discovered this is what had happened to Lt Ross and his men.   He tries to send Rico a psychic warning, but it was too late!!   Carl races to Hydora with another group of Troopers to save his squad from the Mind Bug.   Carl has a psychic battle with the Mind Bug and eventually blows it up with a mind bomb.   Later on Carl reveals that every planet the Bug Army has invaded has at least one Brain Bug on it so the war is far from over.   Rico and Carl come to an understanding about his powers but confrontation with the Brain Bug has caused harm to Carl.   But he hides this from the rest of the squad.

111 "Betrayal" The Roughnecks are on a routine reconnaissance mission of the planet Tophet to see whether it can be used as a staging point for S.I.C.O.N. forces to open up the rest of the galaxy.   The Roughnecks encounter an indigenous race of tall, thin iridescent humanoids who are nick-named Skinnies.   These appear at first to be friendly.   Finding no Bugs, the landing order is given.   But the Skinnies turn on the Roughnecks, revealing themselves to be allies of the Bugs.  An army of Bugs then appears from underground and attacks them.   The Roughnecks have to battle against both the old and the new enemies in order to call off the landing before disaster occurs.

112 "Stranded"

Lt. Razak, suspicious of a lull in the Bug offensive, investigates the area with Higgins in a surface skimmer.   The pair spot a huge Bug migration and call in an air strike.   Unfortunately, their Skimmer crashes and they are left without communications.   With the Bug horde advancing they attempt to find a nearby unmanned relay station to call for pick up before the air strike hits.   Along the way, Higgins and Razak start to understand each other more.   Meanwhile, the Roughnecks strike out on a SAR mission for the missing pair.   Eventually, the squad finds Razak and Higgins just in time.   Working as a squad they fend off the Bug horde until Carmen can pick them up - just seconds before a Zander-lead air strike vaporizes the area.

113 "Of Flesh And Steel" A Cyborg named Chas (Cybernetic Humanoid Assault System) is assigned to the Roughnecks.   Higgins befriends him because he views the robot as a kindred outsider.   Rico (leery of technology as always) doesn't trust Chas, seemingly with good cause.   During a particularly fierce battle Chas ignores the fact that Carl's been hit by a Constrictor blast and Rico has to step in to save his friend.   Because of the incident Razak recommends that Chas be scrapped when the squad returns to the base camp.   Unfortunately, Chas overhears that conversation and becomes apparently paranoid.   Eventually though, Chas proves himself fit to be a Roughneck by sacrificing himself for the good of Higgins and, in turn, the rest of the squad.

141 "Pluto and Beyond"
(C-1)
First of the shows that try to cover the gaps and link-up previously unexplained "loose ends" that were caused by Sky-1 continually showing the series randomly with no regard to plot.  It takes the form of a Fed-Net report from Higgins.

114 "Captured" Razak's Roughnecks are attacked and captured whilst returning from a mission by the Skinnies.   They are held in an apparently escape-proof prison and Carls mental state seems to be getting worse.   When he and Brutto are removed for questioning by a Brain Bug the rest of the squad escape from the  prison using their power suit batteries and a small creature Rico finds that delivers large electrical shocks.   Meanwhile Carl mentally helps Brutto to resist the Brain bug which allows the pair to escape and rejoin the squad.   The squad fight their way out of the prison and call in a rescue ship.   The fighting continues all the way back to the ship and Rico's suit batteries fail at the last.   He is saved though by the small creature which flash-charges his suit.   On the retrieval ship it looks like Carl and Sgt Brutto finally understand each other.

115 "The Face Of Truth" Whilst clearing out Blaster Bugs the Roughnecks capture Colonel T'Phai, the Skinnies leader.   After normal tactical questioning fails Carl is ordered by S.I.C.O.N. High Command to probe him psychically.   During the probe Carl finds another mind inside T'Phai's head.   A small bug is found attached to the colonel, controlling his actions, normally against his will.   T'Phai reveals the Skinny population has always held the Skinny population as slaves as they are needed to mine a material known as "Xylon" which the Transport Bugs need for Interstellar travel.   The Roughnecks, together with other S.I.C.O.N. forces join with T'Phai to rescue his people and in doing so prevent a Transport Bug from leaving the planet with Xylon on board.   In gratitude the Skinnies volunteer to serve with S.I.C.O.N. forces to fight on against the Bugs.   However - there is a Price to pay.   Carl seems to badly injured in his mind and is returned to Earth.

116 "No Substitute" T'Phai is assigned to the Roughnecks as a trooper.   The Roughnecks aren't exactly thrilled at T'Phai being with them.   Lt Razak objects to General Redwing that putting a Skinnie into the squad right now is a bad move and this particular skinnie is almost disastrous as the squad feel bad about Carl.   The squad are wearing Grey armbands to remeber cCarl and T'phai asks to wear one too but Flores says they've run out.    As they board the drop-ship she openly gives one to Carmen in front of T'Phai.   Rico especially views him as the Skinnie responsible for Carl's injuries.   T'Phai joins the unit just as they're assigned the task of taking Zegema Beach at the start of the Tesca Nemerosa campaign.    T'Phai risks his own neck to save the rest of the squad from a Bug ambush and, thanks to his intervention, the Roughnecks take the objective.   After this T'Phai finally gains acceptance from the squad - all except Rico!!   Flores gives him an armband to wear

117 "...And Then There Were Two" The Roughnecks are on patrol in the jungle beyond the Zegema Beach position. A Giant Spider-Bug abducts the Roughnecks one by one leaving the mis-matched pairing of Rico and T'Phai.    They are now forced to work as a team.    T'Phai's power suit is malfunctioning after receiving damage from the Spider-Bug    Eventually they accept each other and, working as a team, they kill the bug, save the rest of the squad - and repair T'Phai's power suit.

118 "Marauder" Gossard is injured so Rico is assigned his marauder suit (26 hours to get ready for 1 hour of use) during the next mission.    They're going up a river to capture a Brain Bug.    Problem is - there's no Brain there; It's a nursery for a new species being created by merging local specimens DNA with the Bugs.    An airstrike is called in but Rico's hour is nearly up and he gets separated from the squad as . his Marauder's batteries expire.    The Roughnecks find him and rescue him just before the airstrike hits.    But a Spider Bug bites him just before they reach him. injecting him with venom.    His survival chances are low according to Doc.

119 "Liquid Dreams" Rico is in the hospital at Zegema Beach floating in a regen Tank.    He is in a coma somewhere between life and death.    In his mind he see's flashes of time in High School with Flores, Carl, Carmen and Razak as well as Basic Training with Drill Sergeant Zim.    A severe storm hits the beachhead causing High Command to evacuate all personnel - but Rico can't be moved!    The Roughnecks volunteer to stay at the Beach Head to try and keep Rico alive.    The storm knocks out all power (including his life-support) but Carmen and Gossard hook up her ships power supply to the hospitals in the nick of time.    Meanwhile Flores is talking to Rico through the Tank glass to keep him alive that way.   She is successful - but has to watch Carmen get the reward.

120 "Heart"

Rico is still floating in the Tank at the hospital whilst he recovers from his injuries. The Roughnecks are out in the jungle mapping strange tunnels but seem to be edgy and bickering.   Razak is puzzled but T'Phai tells him Rico was the "glue" that kept the squad together - when he returned all would be well.    However Rico is hearing Bug sounds and is convinced that the Bugs are planning an attack on the Beach Head.    Dr. Sharaabi attributes this to Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, she thinks that Rico should be given a Section 8, sent home and mind-wiped.    Razak is unhappy at this thought.    Back in the jungle the Roughnecks realize Rico is right; they blow the tunnels and head to base - fast. Meanwhile Rico breaks out of the Regen Tank just in time to save the base as a sneak attack of Control Bugs starts.    The squad arrive back in time to help Rico foil the attack and Dr. Sharaabi sends him back to duty with the Roughnecks.    Rico gets a kiss from Carmen as a reward - whilst Flores watches jealously - even though she's done the same with Sander recently.

121 "Ice-Olation" The Zephyr, a retrieval ship, is returning from a mission with the Roughnecks on board.   She is re-routed to an asteroid where another ship, the research vessel Sequoia, is searching for a biological weapon to use against the bugs - Toxin B3. As the Zephyr comes in to landing, FireFries, tiny fire-breathing bugs, hatch out from the back of Zander's neck.    This causes the ship to crash.   It is badly damaged, but there are no injuries - other than Zander.    Razak sends out teams to locate the Sequoia.    Razak and Doc fall into an underground network of caves where they are attacked by strange leeches.    T'Phai and Brutto find a of fully-grown FireFries which attack them.    Razak and Doc escape from the tunnels and help them out together with Flores and Gossard.    In the mean time Rico and Carmen have been buried in another cave by an avalanche.    Mean while, the third team, Carmen and Rico, is buried by an avalanche in another cave.    Flores saves them just as they run out of ammunition to signal with.    They all return to the Zephyr where Higgins is waiting with the (apparently) recovering Zander.    They then realize that they've landed on the wrong asteroid.    The Sequoia is on another planet all together.    The Zephyr is a wreck and its comms system is u/s, so the Roughnecks are trapped.    Doc discovers though that, as regards the Toxin B3, THEY are on the right asteroid, not the Sequoia.

122 "Mixed Signals" The Roughnecks are trapped on a frozen asteroid.   Razak sends a team out to collect Toxin B-3.   Mean time Gossard tries to get the Zephyrs comms system back on-line whilst the rest of the team beat off attacks by groups of FireFries. The team sent to locate and collect the Toxin B3 are attacked by more Leeches and find, to their surprise, the Leeches are the source of the Toxin.   Whilst collecting the Toxin the team are struck by a high wind seemingly from inside the cave itself.    Carmen is blown out of the cave but finds herself trapped by strange tentacles that sprout from icicles.    When the wind drops she cuts herself free.    While this is going on Gossard send Higgins out to get some crystals he thinks will boost their comms signals.    Higgins is supposed to take Flores but he see's is busy comforting Zander so he goes alone.    He is attacked by FireFries and Flores rescues him.    They return to the ship as the others do followed by the FireFries.    There is a massive battle around the ship which the ship survives. After this Gossard is able to send an SOS which is picked up by the Sequoia. Rico is about to go looking for Carmen - when she walks back into the ship.

123 "Hot Ice" The science vessel, Sequoia, comes to rescue them - but it too crashes.   The Roughnecks set out to locate it and eventually Zander and Higgins find it.    Sander opens the hatch and is dragged inside by a Bug.   Higgins brings the rest of the team back, they enter the ship carefully - but there are no Bugs or human survivors.   They do find Zander miraculously alive but apparently unhinged by what had happened to him.   Gossard removes the Sequoia's fuel cell and they return to the Zephyr with the Sequoia's fuel cell.   The Zephyr is attacked by Firefries but, with the new fuel cell Carmen manages to take off.    However one of the FireFries had managed to get into the ship and, when the Roughnecks attack it, it explodes.   This causes the Zephyr to crash land again.

142 "Propaganda Machine"
(C-2)
Another show made up from clips from preceding episodes.   The theme here is that Higgins must make a good Fed-Net story hiding the horrors of War and showing something positive about the bug campaign.   Some hope!!!

124 "The Inside Story" The Zephyr is still stuck on the ice asteroid.    The Roughnecks are running low on ammunition and the Fireflies keep attacking.   Gossard suggests they use the Toxin they've collected to set up a poison gas perimeter.    To give him time T'Phai, Flores and Rico lead the Fireflies off as human bait.    Things go wrong though and they are trapped with no apparent way out.    Suddenly Zander appears and does a Pied Piper act with the Bugs - they all seem to fall into a giant crater.    The team return to the ship and their report convinces every one Sander has bought the farm - but he suddenly reappears even crazier then before.    Razak boots Rico up to a Corporal during the next battle session during which an tremor send the Zephyr into another crater.   The ship eventually lands in a lake of corrosive liquid and is running low on air.   Doc and Brutto go looking for an oxygen supply. T   hey manage to find one but barely make it back to the ship.    Doc though has other news!    He is convinced they are not in an asteroid but in a giant species of bug!!

125 "The Ice Men Goeth" The Zephyr is trapped inside a giant Bug.    Razak sends out a team to try and retrieve oxygen from the location found by Doc and Brutto.    The way to the oxygen is down a shaft.    Flores and Doc enter a strange portal in the side of the shaft but Brutto has a bad fall.    Rico rescues Brutto and returns him to the ship then returns with Higgins to find Doc & Flores.    These have been swept away in one of the Bugs arteries.    Rico has to leave Higgins but finds Flores and Doc OK.    Razak goes looking for them and finds Higgins who is suffering from lack of air in his suit.    Air is now being pumped into the ship.    Back at the ship, Zander is getting madder.    Gossard gets the idea of using the Firefries as a fuel source from listening to him     The rest of the squad return to the ship just prior to take off.     Zander has been restrained but somehow escapes and attempts to sabotage the ship but the squad stop him.   As they prepare to launch he escapes again and triggers the self-destruct mechanism.    T'Phai jettisons the mechanism and the Zephyr escapes from inside the Bug.   As it tries to flee the Bug awakens and gives chase.   Just it seems the Bug is going to swallow the Zephyr again the self-destruct mechanism blows and takes the bug with it.

126 "Metamorphosis" The Valley Forge is enroute to their next campaign, a long trip.   The Roughnecks drew the watch as most of the ship's crew is in stasis.    Doc is suddenly attacked by Zander who has mutated into a new form of Bug.    Zander escapes and runs amok in the ship, letting samples of other Bug types free to keep the Roughnecks busy whilst it heads for the bridge.    There it captures Carmen and the Commander and, to stop the Roughnecks from interfering, kills power to the stasis tubes.    Gossard manages to restore power to the tubes whilst Rico and Brutto go outside the Valley Forge to the emergency air lock on the bridge.    As they enter the Sander Bug notices them and closes the door trapping Brutto in the process and damaging his legs.    The rest of the team arrive and Zander escapes in a life-pod to the planet he was trying to crash the Valley Forge onto.    Carmen manages to avoid the crash causing the Commander to withdraw earlier comments about automated pilots.    The planet is then identified as being Klendathu - the home world of the Bugs!!

127 "D-Day" S.I.C.O.N. prepares for the D-Day invasion of the bug home planet of Klendathu.    During the build-up Flores gets an M.I.A. notice from telling her. that her brother, Eddie is MIA - presumed dead in a retrieval ship crash.    She is badly shaken by this bombshell and her performance as a trooper is severely affected.    The Roughnecks land in an area deemed uninhabited by Intel, as usual Intel get it wrong and the meet stiff opposition.     Flores hesitates in the DZ and Rico who's been kicked up to Sergeant to replace Brutto is worried as Lt Razak has left it to him to decide whether she is now a liability.    Rico is torn and leaves Flores in charge of a group of wounded troopers from other squads whilst the Roughnecks carry on the fight.    As they get bogged down in the fighting Flores is brought back to reality by the will to fight of an injured trooper from another squad.    She is able to surprise the Bugs from behind and save the Roughnecks.    Later she meets another trooper who tells her her brother was not on the retrieval ship that was shot down.

??? ???
Not Title Known
The Roughnecks are about to be dropped on Klendathu into a hot LZ.   Lt Razak tells Carmen to clear the LZ as he thinks it's too dangerous for the squad to land.   Carman tells him INTEL in the form of Lt Walker ordered no weapons to be used, stealth drop only.   Lt Razak overrides her and the LZ is cleared by bombs.    As soon as Lt Walker finds out he tells Lt Razak that 6 squads were in that area under General Redwing but they'd lost radio contact.   Lt Razak asks why he wasn't told and Walker tells him it was a covert op. on a need to know basis - and Razak didn't need to know.   Back at the base Lt Razak faces a court of inquiry with Walker as prosecutor.   Lt Walker charges Razak with endangering the squad and wrecking S.I.C.O.N. equipment needlessly, using troopers evidence and flash backs as proof.    As the hearing goes on a swarm of bugs attacks the base prompting Lt Walker to exclaim there was a traitor in their midst feeding information to the Bugs and he points at LT Razak.   One of the three Generals immediately calls for Razak to be destroyed.   As soon as this happens Razak hits him with a stun charge.  Whilst the court is in shock a Mind Control Bug escapes from the Generals power suit.  Razak grabs a chair and kills it.    Immediately the screen clears and General Redwing appears telling Lt Razak the trap for the bugs is ready and that they have no back door to escape from.  Lt Walker looks at Razak and asks what was happening.  Razak replies "covert operation to find the traitor.   need to know basis and YOU didn't need to know".   The bug assualt party is totally destroyed.

128 "The Mission"

Higgins is on guard duty at a camp on Klendathu.   Whilst in front of the gates he sees a trooper staggering along.   As he talks to the trooper a new type of Bug, hence known as an Impostor Bug, bursts out of the suit.    The Impostor is a Bug that approximates the size and shape of a human and is able to fit inside stolen power suits.    As such they present a major threat to the security of S.I.C.O.N. forces.    The troopers manage to kill the bug but not before it manages to drop Lt Razak and knock his helmet off.    After the attack, the Roughnecks are ordered to rescue the crew of a downed transport ship.    When they get to the crashed ships location they discover that the crew have been captured by Bugs. As the squad track them Bugs back to their nest Lt Razak collapses - it seems he has been infected by spores carried by the Impostor Bug.    Doc and Flores go to find the fungus responsible so Doc can synthesise an antidote whilst the rest of the squad keep tracking the Bugs.    It seems that the Zander Bug is behind both the kidnap and the Impostor Bugs.    The Roughnecks are ordered to retrieve the hostages and terminate the Zander Bug.    They track down Zander Bug to his own nest and find that he is using DNA from the captured troopers  to create evolved types of Impostor Bugs.    The squad seem to be losing the fight but Flores remembers what T'Phai had said about redemption and inspires the Zander Bug to remember what he was.    He attacks his own Bugs and thus allows the Roughnecks to escape to safety but seems to die in the process..

129 "Letters Home" The Roughnecks are dug in on Klendathu and are facing an inevitable Bug attack. High Command order them to hold the position at all costs. Higgins finds an unfinished letter home an anonymous trooper had begun but not finished. This gives him the idea of taping a series of "Goodbyes" from the rest of the squad to the folks back home - just in case. Through out the night the troopers individually record messages to their families on Earth. At day break the Bugs attack but the Troopers manage to hold them off just long enough for a major air strike to hit the Bugs. As they prepare for retrieval Higgins asks Lt Razak if he wants to tape a message to his family - Razak points him at the squad and tells him that these are his family.

143 "Marooned"
(C-3)
A third "clip" show. This one is a self contained mini-story - Rico is left floating in space after his pod malfunctions during a drop

130 "Checkmate"

Lt Razak is called to a mission briefing to find it being given by Sky Marshall Sanchez himself.   The Sky Marshall tells the assembled officers about the of the Bug Queen.    He then assigns Alpha and Echo squads the mission of locating and destroying the Queen.    One bit of seemingly good news is the return of Carl to the squad.    But the Roughnecks are dismayed to find an apparent change in his personality.    Carl guides the roughnecks to the queens lair but is captured by Bugs enroute losing his helmet in the process.    The Roughnecks find the Queen but she is holding Carl as a shield and Rico is unable to pull the trigger on his friend.    In the fire fight the Queen drops Carl and Rico returns his helmet.    The squad give chase to the Queen but are unable to stop her escaping on a Transport Bug - enroute to Earth!!!!

131 "Trackers" The S.I.C.O.N. Fleet is hunting for the Bug Queen, after she escaped in a Transport Bug from Klendathu.     Whilst in transit the Roughnecks get a mail delivery and find out Higgins had a girlfriend they weren't aware of who had just dumped him.    The Roughnecks get annoyed that, whilst Higgins has the info. on them, they are ignorant about him.    The Valley Forge intercepts what seems to be the Transport Bug the Queen is in and destroys it.     As they make their report the same thing is received from the other fleet vessels.    Carl twigs that the destroyed bugs were just decoys to distract the fleet whilst the Queen heads toward Earth.    Due to Carls psychic abilities the Valley Forge is able to intercept the Queens Transport Bug.    But the Bug seems resistant to all the ships weapons.    2The Roughnecks are sent into blow the Bug from the inside. They only have 48 hours before it reaches the Earth.    Despite heavy resistance inside the Transport Bug they apparently achieve their missions goals.    When they get back to earth they are treated as hero's - Rico points out to Higgins that as such his girl friend problems are a thing of the past!    But when Carl leaves the ship he senses that the Queen is actually on the Earth - and planning its destruction….

132 "Among Us" All S.I.C.O.N. forces revert to peace status after the Bug Queen has apparently been destroyed.    Carl, though, keeps insisting the Queen is still very much alive and on the earth - somewhere.    After another argument General Redwing sends him on leave to cool down.    Meanwhile the roughnecks are reassigned - to the moons of Jupiter to repair the radio telescopes.    Rico believes Carl is right and manages to convince Lt Razak too.    Razak cuts through the red tape and gets Gossard to review satellite imagery of the earth before and after the Queens assumed arrival.    Gossard finds an new, unexplained, hot spot near to Little Butte, North Dakota.     The roughnecks divert their shuttle there without formal authorization but the town seems to be normal - until they realize the towns- people all look alike and sound alike. A   s soon as they realize this they are attacked by the residents.    The Roughnecks manage to capture a resident and get back to the ship.    As they take off the resident turns into a bug with the ability to look human.    Carl gets the information from it's mind that the Bugs are planning to attack about 50 targets all around the world - including the near-by Cold Fusion plant in North Dakota.    Razak alerts S.I.C.O.N. to the new threat then the squad saves the plant.    Other targets are lost though and the war is now being fought on the home front……

133 "Home front" Bug Forces launch a devastating surprise attack on Buenos Aires which nearly destroys the city.   S.I.C.O.N. orders a massive ground assault on the city and  the Roughnecks are sent in as part of it.   Flores, Rico, and Carl are badly affected by this tragedy, as B. A. is their home - and they do not know whether  their parents have survived.    Flores becomes obsessed with trying to find her parents but Rico hasn't spoken to his since the war began.   As the battle rages on the Roughnecks find what appear to be several new species of Bug which they track down into and through the sewer tunnels.   However as they fight them they find individual species seem resistant to certain of their weapons.   They then find out that these are not new species but mutated versions of the old ones.    The mutations have been caused by radiation from the main reactor at S.I.C.O.N's munitions plant.   After the battle Flores finds out her parents have been killed - but Rico's are listed as MIA

134 "Hide N' Seek" A massive bug mound has appeared outside of Buenos Aires.   S.I.C.O.N. thinks the Bugs are going to assault the city again so they try to bomb the mound from the air.    Plasma Tanker Bugs shot the planes down though and, because they keep changing location the air attacks are unable to neutralize them.    So the Roughnecks are sent in with four other squads to locate and destroy the Tanker Bugs so the mound can be bombed to destruction.    The squads dig in and hide whilst s decoy force lures the Warrior Bugs defending the Tankers away.    Rico's group is almost detected by a Bug but Carl is able to mentally change its view and thus save the group.    As the squads move in at night the game is given away by a trooper from another squad who launches a grenade at some Bugs.   However this turns out to have a positive effect as all the Tanker Bugs start to fire all at once believing it's another aerial attack thus revealing all their positions simultaneously.    The squads launch a missile attack on the mound which destroys the entire mound and wipes out the Bugs.    Flores is almost killed during this operation and Rico reveals his feelings for her.    Flores tells Rico that she's a jinx, and everyone who loves her gets hurt - pointing to Zander as an example.    She then points out the differences in rank and calls his behaviour "inappropriate".    As Rico walks away it can be seen though, that she does not mean what she said!!

135 "Requiem" S.I.C.O.N has discovered that there is a vast network of Bug tunnels and colonies beneath the city of San Francisco.   S.I.C.O.N. decides the only way to ensure victory is to hit the whole city with nukes the city thus destroying everything above and below ground.    Because an evacuation of that size would warn the Bugs it has been decided not to warn the civilian inhabitants.    Lt Razak objects to this action and, surprisingly, is supported by his nemesis from INTEL, Lt Walker.    The Sky Marshal gives them 24 hours to complete the only alternate plan.     They need to blow massive holes in the tunnels that run underwater and thus flush out the bugs to street level where troopers would be waiting for them.     As a safeguard the bombs will be mixed with the last reserves of Toxin B3.    If they fail though San Francisco will be destroyed by S.I.C.O.N. as will the two squads.    Overall the mission is a success despite a bomb going non-op and needing to be reset.    But Lt Razak is killed by a Water Tiger just as the squads  prepare to evac. and detonate the bombs.    Rico is badly upset by Razak's death but the Roughnecks must deal with both Razak's demise and the ever increasing intensity of the Bug war here on Earth.

136 "Funeral For A Friend" General Redwing has ordered the Roughnecks to be split up as she does not have a spare Lt to assign to them.   They are given time, though, to time to honour Lt Razak's Last Will so they got to spread his ashes over Luna Lake in Colorado.    They are joined by General Redwing and by Sgt. Brutto who is now in a wheel-chair and who doubts his own worth.    The squad come across a Bug operation and try to withdraw but General Redwing and Higgins are captured.   They are threatened by a Brain Bug and Rico knows he ought to order General Redwing's death.    However, by using the spare fuel cells from Sgt Brutto's wheel chair Gossard and Doc blow the mountain according to Rico's plan.    Sgt Brutto uses his wheel chair to swoop in and save the hostages whilst the bugs are distracted.    Afterwards General Redwing tells Rico he should have had her killed.   Rico tells her that was plan "B".    General Redwing realizes the squad is too valuable to split up so she offers Rico a battlefield promotion to lieutenant.   With a nudging from Flores he accepts to keep the squad together.    The squad then spread Razak's ashes over the lake from Carmens retrieval ship..

137 "Spirits Of The Departed" Rico's Roughnecks are sent to the S.I.C.O.N. HQ on Hawaii as a Bug attack is thought to be imminent.   Before they leave Sgt Brutto sends them a message  telling them he's arranged for his son to join the Roughnecks and asking T'Phai to keep an eye on him.    T'Phai promises Brutto he will treat him like he would his own son.   Rico is not feeling happy and lacks confidence at replacing Lt Razak.    This is not helped when Pvt Max Brutto joins them and shows every sign of being a trouble maker!   He is also startled to see Sgt Zim on Hawaii but Zim tells him the training camp has closed as there is no one left to train.   The Roughnecks are assigned to a comms bunker on the North end of the island and, as they are digging in the Bugs launch a massive attack.   The Bug attack seems to be getting out of hand then Sgt Zim appears and this sways the tide of combat.    Sgt Zim then tells Rico he's got himself posted to the Roughnecks as they were short a sergeant.   At first Rico can't handle the job but after Sgt Zim tells him some "home truths" he eventually pulls it together and becomes a real leader.    They manage to repair the radio mast and warn HQ of the attack.   Rico requests retrieval but the earliest Carmen can get there is 6 minutes so Rico orders Gossard to blow the bunker whilst the squad hides in a bomb shelter. They find out later they held out the longest of any of the S.I.C.O.N. forces on the island.    Despite the Roughnecks efforts though, S.I.C.O.N. is forced to abandon the island, and Carl informs his friends the worst is yet to come. Transport Bugs are seen hovering by the Moon.

138 "The Gates Of Hell" Carl encourages Rico and Flores to get together and form a pairing.   But when the Roughnecks take part in S.I.C.O.N. attempts to retake Oahu and their H.Q. Rico finds he is becoming too overprotective of Flores.    The S.I.C.O.N. forces are victorious.   Rico and Flores, though, agree to put their relationship on hold till the war's over.    At S.I.C.O.N. H.Q. Sky Marshal Sanchez visits to congratulate  the troopers.   Before he has a chance to say much though, a Bug pit is opened underneath him and he is snatched by the Bugs.
